Grand Opening!

Welcome!

we have stocked our little shop for our grand opening on Sunday, June 14th, 2015.
we will be open to the public from noon to 3PM, in Valparaiso, IN.
408 Sandalwood Drive.

These books are in our $2 section, and mostly more popular titles in the Adult Fiction genre! a lot of these are my personal favorites, as i love Jodi Picoult! these books are what i see most talked about, and books that have been made into motion pictures recently. Some of the authors include Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks, Kristin Hannah,Lisa Scottline, Barabara Delinsky, Lauren Conrad, and Dace Pelzer. Some of the titles are The Help, The Time Travelers Wife, The Memory Keepers Daughter, Kite Runner, the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, The Shack, The Love Dare, and many more!

I always get asked if i have an Stephen Kings, Dean Koontz, and James Patterson novels, so i have made it my personal goal, to find these authors and their popular novels for the shop! all hardcover books are $3, and the paperbacks of these authors are $2.

Teen books are most likely the one genre i have been looking for the most, as i personally believe that more teens should be reading! i have a young daughter, whom i hope shares in my love for reading, and a lot of the "teen" level books, i wouldn't allow her to read. However, even at 26 years old, i absolutely love Sarah Dessen and her beautifully written stories, and of course, the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. i have many plans to try to find more young books for boys, which i have been finding more difficult! These books are also in the $2 section.

I personally love a good mystery novels, and good beach reads. these hardcovers have all of that!

Looking for a new author to fall in love with? these books in the $1 section can absolutely help you with that! these books jump all over genres, from humor, to historical fiction, to anything you can imagine!

don't you love these little small paperback books, that you can carry with you on the train or bus to work? or stick in a diaper bag when you head to the park? i do! not the mention the ever popular V.C. Andrews. these perfect little books are in our $1 section as well.

Pricing!
One of the biggest reasons i wanted to open a used bookshop, was so that readers can get affordable books. as a mom of three, on only my husbands income, i often find myself not being able to allow myself to spend $15 on one book, when we have mouths to feed and clothes to buy. Reading is such a wonderful thing, that shouldn't come with such a high price. Our hardcover novels are priced at $3, Popular Paperbacks are $2, as well as our teen books, and other paperbacks are priced at $1. we will also have a few boxes of $.50 books that you can choose from.

Punch Cards!
One of my favorite features in the book store that i frequented down in Tennessee, was their trade in policy. unless it's an author that i collect, i tend to read books only once. and then they sit on my shelf and i never know what to do with them. does this happen to you? well, say no more! i have created a system where you can trade in old titles that you have read, for something new that you're looking for. it also helps the shop to have different genres, authors, and titles. everyone that brings in books, will get one punch on their card, for every book that they bring in. when your card is filled up, you get to pick out any one book from the shop that you'd like. no catch, that's it! one book, one punch, full card, new book. isn't that exciting?! I will also have small tasks, such as sharing the Carpe Librum Facebook Page with friends, or sending a referral to the shop, that will get you punches also! so keep an eye out! i will keep the punch cards in the shop, so they can't be lost, and it's convenient for you. i will place names on them, and if you prefer a phone number or an email address, so if we get in a book that you have been looking for, we can easily contact you!

Suggestion Box!
i began this shop for the love of books, but also to help others find the books that they want, for a lesser price than barnes and noble, all in one spot. i hunt for books where i can, when i can, so getting suggestions, or titles and authors that you are looking for, is important to me! i have a box set up with pieces of paper that i ask everyone to write down what they're looking for. not just in books, but in a bookstore also. This box will help me get things started, and help better serve the customers, and make it everything that you'd ever hope for it to be!

Shipping!
Carpe Librum will also be shipping books, and PayPal is open for payment.whether you're in the state of Indiana, or other states around the country. i know how sometimes it's not so easy to get out of the house, and have good books come to you. shipping costs will be around $4 per book to be shipped. If you're near the shop, or the places that we travel, we are also more than willing to bring the books to you for a small fee.

i can not thank everyone enough for all the support i have gotten to make this happen. This has been a dream of mine for many years. Reading is my biggest love in life, outside of my children, and i want to be able to share that with others while i can. The biggest spreading of such a small dream, is by word of mouth and i have had the most wonderful experience with others sharing our page, and telling their friends. i am beyond excited to see what Sunday brings, and hope to see everyone there! if you are unable to make it on Sunday, please let me know and i will see what i can do, to open the shop when needed! Thank You!

Used BookShop Coming SOON!

Welcome!

my name is Kimberly.
and i live in Northwest Indiana.
I have been a Stay At Home Mom for the past 4 years to three little ones.
Over the years, my dreams have changed many times, but the only constant love and passion i have had, is BOOKS!
my husband and i lived in Tennessee for a year and i fell in love with this used bookstore, i found it my second home. not only were books more affordable, but they had a trade in system where you took your old books in, for credit for new books. When we moved back to Indiana, it has been my greatest miss. So, why not bring a touch of the south home with me? As of now, i am unable to go through the process of owning my own store, however, all small businesses start somewhere, right? We are fortunate to be able to have our shop start in the comfort of our own home, in hopes to expand in the future.

So many people get caught up in the technology of today's world, and forget the magic of books. getting wrapped up in a story, sitting in the sunshine engulfed in a novel. Having children to raise, i don't want to hand them an ereader, it isn't the same. We hold the future, and books should never get pushed to the same. don't you remember the thrill of buying new books, and not being able to get home to read it? It's so different than hitting "download" and waiting for it to load. Help me bring back the magic!

Every dream takes flight with a single step.

Carpe Librum will be a bookshop that extends to all readers, with adult, teen, and childrens books to choose from. A touch of bringing back a little of the magic that books hold. A place where you can stay as long as you like, and enjoy getting lost in the wonder that is books. There will be a point and punch card system for trade in books, bringing your old books in and taking new books home. and all donations will be excepted with generosity. There will always be a suggestion box for titles and authors that you're looking for, All these joys will be in one cozy little spot, with no shipping costs or wait time. In the future i plan to host Book Clubs and Kiddos Story Times.
Carpe Librum will be opening in June, 2015, and will be open a few days on the weekend a month.

i have started this blog to track progress of this shop, as well as advertise new books, upcoming events, and get hold of any and all suggestions to help me, help you.

i can not wait to get my dream started and am able to share it with the world, and see where this road takes me, and you. Thank You so much for all the support that i have already been given. Lets make some memories

and

SEIZE THE BOOK!
